For anyone that’s known me for as long as they have, I’ve always had the worst luck.
I’ve pulled hundreds of Pokémon packs, and I barely get anything passable.
Which is why I’ve been so unsure about what’s been going on lately.
For context, I recently attended Collector’s Vault’s Night Market on 08/15 at 1100 EVENTZ.
This venue was quite large (right down the street from Joong Boo Market), allowing for more
vendors and attendees to show up, buy some singles, pull some packs, grab some merch, eat
good food – all that and more.
I walked in holding a Booster Box of the latest Japanese Pokémon Card Set “Storm Emeralda.”
@Pokeunnie and the other vendors also had these boxes for sale, but I was determined to rip the
one I had.
Even if I pulled nothing great, I figured it would still make good content.
With plentiful seats and tables at the Night Market, I plopped myself down with my good friend
@handsonlarissa, ready to crack these packs.
We ripped the Booster Box open and split the 30 available packs evenly between the two of us.
Of my 15 packs, I pulled these cards:
I knew that with Japanese Booster Boxes, there was a guaranteed Box Hit.
I was hoping to pull a Special Illustration Rare / SIR, but it wasn’t in my 15 packs.
@handsonlarissa’s luck had been similar to mine for 14 of her packs.
Some Illustration Rares / IRs, some EX cards – nothing really to write home about.
We were getting dejected pack after pack, thinking there wasn’t else left in store for us.
Then we got to the last pack.

imagine my full-on shock and awe when @handsonlarissa did the pack trick and revealed the hit
from the stack:
I couldn’t believe it.
I yelped.
I jumped from my seat.
I surprised the room around me with how loud I reacted, with all eyes turning to me.
We pulled the Chase Card from Storm Emeralda. The Mega Rayquaza EX SAR
(Note: SAR is the Japanese equivalent to English SIR)
Prices have gone down on this card since we’ve pulled it, but at the time, the card was worth a
whopping $600 ungraded.
Only the Mega Rayquaza EX Gold Card (below) is more expensive, but I argue that the card we
pulled was much more desirable to collectors.
This begs the question – has my luck turned around?
Was this maybe the magic of the Collector’s Vault Show?
If I keep attending Collector’s Vault’s shows, will I just keep getting lucky with IRs and SIRs if I
pulled my packs there?
I guess I just have to keep going, right?
